We visited Dauphin Island, AL this past Memorial Day Weekend and found no oil or any other oil-related traces on any of the beaches. We did see a camp of BP workers on one end of the island, but otherwise everything was pretty normal. We could not get any oysters at any of the restaurants, but all other seafood was still available, such as, crawfish tails, shrimp, and scallops. Everyone was swimming on the beach and laying out in the sun. We did see some oil barriers along the smaller uninhabited island before you get to Dauphin Island, but we did not see any oil anywhere around that area. It rained a few times while we were there, but it was still a very enjoyable trip. We hope to get back there real soon.

I had to leave work at noon today due to the snow storm that hit all of middle tennessee. I drove about 30mph all the way home and it took me two and a half hours to drive from Tullahoma to Lewisburg. I could feel my tires slide every time I hit the brake or accelerator. I can hear sleet hitting the car now. Wow, a real snow storm in Tennessee!

We are looking for places to take vacation this spring and summer. It will most likely be somewhere on the gulf coast of Alabama or Florida. We spent 3 days on Dauphin Island, AL last summer. It was quiet and the beaches and stores were a lot less crowded than Gulf Shores. There aren’t as many stores or restaurants there, but it has everything you need including one golf course, charter boats, and a few bars. The restaurants are not really fancy but they have fresh, home-cooked food. There aren’t any chain restaurants there at all, no McDonald’s, Burger King, etc., only locally owned businesses. Dauphin Island, Alabama really feels like a small town.

I did not leave work until 7:00 pm today. The Aruba Wireless System stopped allowing our users to connect to it. We had to restore it to a 9 month old backup. It seems to be working fine now. Aruba systems are a pain to work on.
