We are looking for places to take vacation this spring and summer. It will most likely be somewhere on the gulf coast of Alabama or Florida. We spent 3 days on Dauphin Island, AL last summer. It was quiet and the beaches and stores were a lot less crowded than Gulf Shores. There aren’t as many stores or restaurants there, but it has everything you need including one golf course, charter boats, and a few bars. The restaurants are not really fancy but they have fresh, home-cooked food. There aren’t any chain restaurants there at all, no McDonald’s, Burger King, etc., only locally owned businesses. Dauphin Island, Alabama really feels like a small town.
